Do you remember the moment you first held the key to your very own moped? The first summer of freedom, the long roads and the even longer evenings.
From then on, the world was bigger. To the ice cream parlor in the evening, then a ride with no destination, jacket open. For many it was a Simson, an uncle’s Schwalbe or an S51 passed down through three owners. And some only know the feeling from the pillion seat, arms around someone who was already allowed to ride.
At some point it was over. Apprenticeship, university, first love. The moped was sold or simply stayed where it was, under a tarp, behind your parents’ house. On some warm evenings, you miss it a little.
But many of those mopeds never quite disappeared. Some keep riding today, electrified, and anyone who gets back on quickly notices: the feeling is still there. Only the wind is easier to hear now. Maybe you will sit on one again soon. Or someone who is still too young for a key of their own.
