Our motivation
Advancing climate change and its increasingly tangible effects call for concrete solutions. Second Ride drives a sustainable transport transition by converting combustion vehicles to electric drive. Most of the vehicle stays in use, and CO2 emissions are reduced by more than 50 percent compared to producing a new electric vehicle. Our goal is to take this approach, known as retrofit, from the circular economy and design it for scale and broad application. By developing technology, we want to do our part in keeping the planet liveable for future generations.
Over the past years we have built an exceptionally capable and talented team of 15 people. We develop the hardware, software and electronics of our products in-house. One patent on our battery technology has been granted, a second one filed. Final assembly and quality testing also take place in Berlin. More than 1,000 conversion kits have already left our halls and turned old two-strokes into modern electric mopeds. We have passed the one million euro annual revenue mark.
A Simson was the first vehicle for both founders. The mopeds from the former GDR stand out not only for their looks, but also because a moped licence allows you to ride them at 60 km/h. At the same time it is the most produced two-wheeler in Germany, with a mid six-figure number of active vehicles. With Second Ride we are making these cult mopeds fit for the future: low-maintenance, powerful and locally emission-free. And that is only the beginning of our plan. With the MID50, a universal kit compatible with half of all mopeds worldwide, we are now going international.
