MID50 conversion kit suitable for Simson KR51/1

At a glance:

• Everything you need to convert your moped from combustion engine to electric drive in an afternoon. With detailed video and written instructions and active Second Ride Community

• Up to 55 km range per removable battery (side pockets for second and third battery to follow soon)
• Also legal 60 km/h and 5.5 hp with parts certificate or offroad up to 20 hp and unlimited speed.
• Developed and produced in Berlin

Performance and speed:

• Up to 20 hp possible in open mode (second battery required for parallel operation. Side pocket battery holder for second battery will follow soon in the store. Maximum 10 hp or 7.5 kW possible with one battery)
• For road approval, the engine must be throttled to 60 km/h and 1.4 times the original power and permanently stored. After final throttling, it is no longer possible to increase the engine speed or power.

Legal:

• Continue to drive legally at 60 km/h in accordance with the special regulation from the GDR
• Incl. parts certificate from TÜV
• After conversion, modification approval must be carried out by technical experts (TÜV, Dekra, KÜS, , GTÜ, …) and then the papers must be renewed at the local registration office. More information

Continue to use the original parts of the gasoline engine:

• The corresponding adapter kits enable side covers to be screwed on for M50 Simson engines (e.g. installed in KR51/1) and M500 Simson engines (e.g. installed in KR51/2)
• M50 side covers require an M50 adapter kit. M500 side covers require an M500 adapter kit
• The speedometer drive in the right-hand side cover can only be used in M500 side covers. With M50 side covers, the output shaft is not aligned with the speedometer drive and a hub or digital speedometer must be used.
• Unfortunately, you cannot simply screw your cylinder onto the MID50 drive module because the sleeve is in the way. If you have a defective cylinder, you can remove the sleeve mechanically. The cylinders we offer have a liner that has already been removed.
• The KR51/1 requires a KR51/1 cylinder head on the drive module as an attachment to the frame.

Revolutionary battery technology:

• The 2 kWh 50V battery is built with a revolutionary and patented technology from Second Ride. If a cell should ever be defective, it can be replaced instead of having to replace the entire battery.
• In addition, the technology enables the best passive cooling performance on the market for removable batteries. This means that charging times of just one hour will be possible in the future and overheating while driving will be virtually impossible.
• The battery and vehicle can be controlled with the Second Ride app and can now also be updated wirelessly

Delivery time:

• You will be one of the first to receive a MID50 conversion kit. However, due to the production start-up of the completely new product, a little patience is required. From February 2026, we will deliver in the order in which the orders arrive. For orders placed after 28 November 2025, the earliest delivery date is from the beginning of June. So it’s worth striking early.

• Following a kind letter from the trademark owner GESA, we feel compelled to clarify the following: The brand “Simson”, “IFA” or “S” are in no way connected with the Second Ride products. The Second Ride conversion kit is only compatible with vehicles and add-on parts that are marketed under the aforementioned brands.
