Details of the conversion kit
How far can I really get with the battery?

Up to 110 km! 1 battery pack has a capacity of 2 kWh, which provides a range of approx. 55 km. Depending on the type of moped, two or more battery packs can be installed. The specified range refers to an average value for city and interurban traffic with a moped configuration of maximum 5.5 hp and single-seater operation.

Is there a second battery?

Depending on the moped model, you can install a different number of battery packs. In general, you can start with one battery and then buy additional battery packs separately.

How can I convert my moped?

Do it yourself or at your trusted workshop. You will receive detailed printed instructions and video tutorials to help you with the conversion. Carlo, as an experienced mechanic, can convert a Simson S51 to electric in 30 minutes, while Sebastian, with less experience, needs around 3 hours. However, if you are still unsure, any workshop can do the conversion in a reasonable amount of time. Do you run a workshop and are interested in working with us or know someone who is? With pleasure, this way!

How fast can I ride with the electric conversion kit?

The MID50 conversion kit is delivered with 20 hp and a top speed of 90 km/h. You can then register your electric moped as a small or light motorcycle, but you must reduce the power in accordance with the specifications (permanently). This is the only way to ensure approval by your technical inspector. A parts certificate is supplied for Simson mopeds, which ensures a maximum speed of 60 km/h with a maximum of 5.5 hp. The basic requirement is a valid operating license as a combustion engine from the GDR.

Recuperation: Does the motor recover energy when braking?

Yes, as soon as you stop accelerating, the motor converts your kinetic energy into electricity and charges the battery in the process. The bottom line is that this not only gets you further, but also extends the service life of your brakes.

What is the Second Ride Community?

The Second Ride Community is a forum based on the Discord software platform. Several hundred Second Ride riders are already exchanging ideas and experiences there. We have already incorporated a lot of the feedback from the forum into our development. In addition, people from the community help each other with difficulties regarding registration and conversion. We would be delighted to welcome you here soon! As soon as you have purchased a conversion kit, you will find the link to the forum in the login area of the store.

Can I see the conversion kit somewhere?

Is there a guarantee?

The usual statutory provisions in Germany apply to the warranty. Second Ride offers an additional 12-month warranty for the conversion kits.

Which Simson models are compatible?

You can find all compatible models in our. If you would like to develop a conversion kit for a different vehicle, please complete this survey. This helps us to better assess the interest in further models

How does the Adapt-it-Yourself-Kit work?

The Adapt-it-Yourself kit is supplied without model-specific adapters. You can develop these adapters yourself based on the 3D models provided by us and make them available to the community or benefit from adapter kits developed by the community!

How does the approval process work?

For Simson vehicles: A parts certificate is included in the scope of delivery of the Second Ride conversion kit. After successful conversion, go to your local technical service or technical inspection center (TÜV, Dekra, etc.), which will check your vehicle for general roadworthiness (for example: Is the conversion kit installed correctly, what is the general condition of the vehicle, etc.). The conversion kit itself is not technically tested - we carry out the tests that are decisive for approval and are officially confirmed in the parts certificate.
Once the vehicle has been approved, there is still a formal process to go through: a visit to the local registration office to update the operating license.
